Hermitage Remembered
The Hermitage Series is an exploration of memories of my beloved childhood home where I grew up on Hermitage Road here in Ann Arbor.
The paintings feature indistinct forms and gestural lines incorporated with textural collage and a subdued color palette to create a dreamlike feeling – a blurry memory just out of reach – they’re ethereal, atmospheric, and wholly imperfect.
Up close, you see textures, lines, colors. Far away, you may just be able to imagine the crude form of a house nestled in the landscape.
This painting is about the sweetness of nostalgia mixed with the sadness of loss – a unique blend of place, time, and people that can never be recreated.
